    Career Path

As the event and communications specialist for Colorado Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) , Heather Johnson leads external and internal events, and serves as the lead in-house producer for video projects among spearheading other marketing and public relations tasks.

Heather’s career began as a production assistant for Starz. After being with the organization for more than a decade, she was ready to transition into the something new; PR and marketing seemed like a natural next step.

“I enjoy being able to interact with a variety of people and help them promote their stories. I also enjoy helping teams develop strategies to create awareness,” shares Heather.

Heather was intrigued by CHFA after learning that organization was heavily invested in the Colorado community; CHFA provides financing for multifamily communities, single family customers and business development projects. She has become successful in her position because she thrives on meeting new people and hearing customers’ homeownership stories.

    Commitment to PRSA

Heather currently serves on the PRSA Colorado Board of Directors as an assembly delegate, as well as the diversity and inclusion chair for PRSA Colorado. Her involvement in PRSA has allowed her to meet people and continue her professional growth.

“The amount of talent in this field can be overwhelming, but being able to call on literally thousands of people for advice is amazing. The comradery that comes with understanding our mutual challenges is very beneficial,” says Heather.

Her next big goal for her career is to obtain APR. Achieving accreditation in public relations can help PR professionals establish a foundation of their educational degree, and keep up with today’s best practices and applications in our ever-evolving communications world.

“I have put this off for years, and for me, it’s time to make this happen,” shares Heather.

    Upcoming Trends

Looking forward, Heather sees Augmented Reality (AR) as a trend on the rise that will generate new options for content creation and storytelling across the board.

“AR is a big trend; I didn’t fully understand its role in PR a few years ago, but as it continues to gain popularity, it will be crucial for PR practitioners to understand how to use it as a messaging tool,” states Heather.

Currently, Heather resides in Centennial with her husband and two children. If you’d like to learn more about Heather, follow her on Twitter @heatherjohnson4.
