Workshop #1 - THREE Options (Topics and Descriptions Below):
The Art of Storytelling: Sharing Past Successes to Generate Future Results
Although storytelling is a craft that is centuries old, it continues to play a critical role in the public relations industry today, tomorrow and beyond. Technology and social media have transformed the art of how we tell our stories and is important to understand the relationship between effective storytelling and public relations. This workshop discusses why telling a story is important, the components of a good story, and how to use stories to engage media and inspire your audience to act. Participants will learn how to use new technology/media in tandem with traditional PR tools, to effectively deliver compelling stories that illustrate the impact and value of your company, service or client. In addition, you'll get easy-to-apply tips on how to engage current customers to tell stories on your companies/clients behalf.
Navigating Crisis Communications in a Social Media Age
The advent of social media/marketing has made everyone a reporter. This new reality gives breaking news a whole new meaning, especially when it comes to crisis communications. In this workshop, participants will learn how to use social media, along with traditional public relations, to develop an effective, yet easy-to-implement, crisis communications plan. The presentation will focus on how to leverage social media before, during and after a crisis situation, the role social media can take in resolving (and sometimes starting) a crisis, and what social media tools have the most immediate and effective impact during a crisis situation. Whether your crisis communications plan is in the "need to complete" file or just needs some TLC, this workshop is for anyone who wants to ensure their plans are up-to-speed with the latest and greatest communications tools and technology.
Preparing Today for a Future in PR
Whether it's the result of challenging economic conditions, increased technology, or the changing media landscape, the public relations industry is evolving and PR practitioners need to understand, now more than ever, how to stay relevant, how to add value to clients and companies and what skills are "must haves" in today's job market and beyond. If you are looking for a job in the PR field or simply looking for ways to demonstrate your value in your current position or to your clients, this workshop will provide insight on how to set yourself apart and what skills sets you may need.
